At First Coast Oncology, bringing the highest level of technology to our community is an important part of our practice. We pride ourselves on making the latest, state-of-the-art equipment available to our patients. This equipment removes all treatment limitations and allows us to provide our patients the best and most progressive cancer treatments. We have been the first private oncology practice in Northeast Florida to offer the following technologies:

  1. AccuBoost therapy to treat breast cancer
  2. Recognized worldwide as one of the leaders in cancer treatment using the Nucletron high-dose-rate brachytherapy system
  3. Calypso, GPS for the body for the treatment of prostate cancer
  4. Proton Therapy to treat prostate and brain cancers – starting in 2013

We use the following technical equipment in our treatment and diagnoses process:

  • Elekta Medical Linear Accelerator - Radiation can be delivered as several x-ray beams using these sophisticated medical linear accelerators.
  • Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) - IGRT uses advanced imaging technology to precisely treat tumors.
  • PET/CT Simulator - This technology provides the most advanced and accurate means for defining malignant areas and customizing Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) treatments.
  • Pinnacle Treatment Planning Computer - Pinnacle3 provides powerful visualization tools that are evident in the crisp volumetric rendering of the images displayed.
  • MicroSelectron-HDR - The system offers integrated graphics capabilities that greatly facilitate the selection of an optimum plan of treatment.
  • Prostate Seed Implants - Prostate seed implants, also known as brachytherapy, are a radiotherapy option available to men diagnosed with the early stages of prostate cancer.
  • Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy - IMRT is an approach to conformal radiation therapy that conforms a high dose to the target volume while restricting dose to the surrounding sensitive structures.
  • TheraView - This system, designed for the precise needs of radiation therapy, delivers an extensive scope of mega-voltage portal imaging and quality assurance features for daily IGRT verification.
  • Genetic Testing - We offer testing for hereditary breast cancer, colon cancer, and melanoma in our First Coast Oncology facilities in Mandarin and Fernandina Beach.
